River women end season with 4-0 loss to Eastern Florida State in district H playoff battle

POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

The MACJC-Region 23 champion Pearl River Lady Wildcats wrapped their 2014 soccer season here Saturday, falling to Eastern Florida State College 4-0.

The Lady Titans led 2-0 at the half off goals by Jamie Perriello and Abbie Camargo. Perriello scored first 7:44 into the playoff battle, while Camargo scored her first of three goals in the contest with 4:02 left before the intermission.

Camargo scored her two other goals at the 42:23 and 12:15 marks of the second half.Pearl River defeated Hinds last weekend for the state-regional title in the MACJC-Region 23 Tournament played at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville.PRCC's state-regional champion men ended their season Friday with a 1-0 loss to Northeast Texas CC in Mt. Pleasant, Tex.Jack Byrd is head coach of the Lady Wildcat squad, while Paul Martin coaches the men's squad.

    The University of Southern Mississippi ended Saturday’s regular-season baseball finale at Marshall University the same way it started, with a bang. The 18th-ranked Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in both the second and ninth innings, scoring eight runs in each, as USM finished off a first-ever sweep of the Thundering Herd on its home turf with a 18-9 victory at Epling Stadium.

    A man is recovering from injuries after he claims he was beaten by officers with the Laurel Police Department. Thirty-six-year-old James Barnett indicated the incident took place on Tuesday, May 15.
