Woman charged with statutory rape in Jones County

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

On Monday 29-year old Carmen Rigby was arrested on two-counts of statutory rape.

Rigby made her initial appearance on Tuesday in Jones County Justice Court before Judge Howell Beech where he set her bond at $50,000 for each count.

Her arrest came as the result of a tip that she was having an unlawful sexual relationship with a 15-year old boy.

Major Don Scott, of the Jones County Sheriff's Department said after interviewing Rigby, they had enough information to place her under arrest.

“Clearly it does affect all of us, anytime that a child falls victim whether willingly or not, it affects all of us.” said Scott, “At the age of fifteen, they have not yet reached the age of consent, therefore, we have to enforce the law.”

If convicted, Rigby could get thirty-years for each count. She remains in the Jones County Jail and the case is still under investigation.
