Retirement community is now open

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - An all-inclusive retirement community is now move in ready. The Claiborne assisted living facility provides maintenance-free living, independent cottages, and programs for individuals with memory-related diseases.

“We are one of the top 50 places in the country to retire and we didn't even have a retire community,” said Owner Rob Tatum.

All residences are designed to have a home-like feel.

"Right now we have 68 units that are dedicated for assistant living and memory care," said Glenn Barclay, operations manager officer.

The facility is all inclusive.

"It has the movie theater, our main dining room, card room, and it also opens up to the main court yard," Tatum said.

Residents also have the opportunity to go out on the town.

"We have a 14 person vehicle and staff trained to take our residents out to go shopping, to eat, or to football games," Barclay said.

This facility marks the completion of phase one of the master plan, and phase two is underway, according to Tatum.

"Under construction right now we have a 132 independent living apartments, an 11,000 square foot club house, a bocce court, putt-putt golf, swimming pool and outdoor grilling," Tatum said.

It is located off of Veterans Memorial Drive between the YMCA and Tiberton subdivision. The ribbon cutting will be held on December 11th.

The Claiborne Assisted Living development has been open for 3 weeks and has 21 tenants. The minimum age for applications is 55.
