Gas prices fall throughout the Pine Belt

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Gas prices continue to fall nationwide, including stations around the Pine Belt.

Bankrate.com predicted that prices should continue to decline throughout the remainder of the year. Nationally, the average price has fallen 3.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.05.

"This is probably the lowest in four years we've seen. The crude prices are being controlled by OPEC who is flooding the market right now,” said Richard Parrish, Dandy Dan's Supervisor. “Also the European economy is down therefore lower gas prices for all of us.”

The national price stands 25.9 cents lower than a year ago. According to gasbuddy.com, the magnolia state's prices are cheaper than that. The website ranked Mississippi in the top three states for the cheapest gas prices in the country.

"It's been years since I've seen it and I just think it is awesome. I'm headed to the coast now and I don't have to buy a lot of gas," said Barbara Edwards, Hattiesburg resident.

Parrish encouraged residents to keep their eyes out for the lowering gas prices in our area.

"We just dropped it (the price) about ten minutes ago, so hopefully it will continue to go lower," said Parrish For a local up to date gas price list click here.
