Petal Police Participate in Railroad Blitz

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Mississippi Operation Lifesaver in conjunction with the Petal Police and Fire Departments participated in a railroad blitz event at all railroad crossing in the city. The program is an effort to bring awareness of the dangers associated with roadway and railroad crossings. These blitzes are held throughout the year in various locations statewide. It's hoped that the public will be more informed about the dangers associated when crossing a railroad.

According to Kim Sloan, Executive Director of Mississippi Operation Lifesaver, it is extremely important for the public to be informed about the danger these crossings present.

“We must do our best to inform motorist, as well as pedestrians of the dangers that they can encounter at railroad crossings,” Sloan said. “we are working to raise public awareness about these incidents, and hope that with our “See Tracks? Think Train!” message, we can help reduce the number of fatalities and injuries not only in Petal, but statewide.”

Mississippi Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit organization that is working diligently to stop the needless deaths and injuries on or near highway and railroad crossings through education, enforcement and engineering.
