USM hosts Career Explorations Conference for girls

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Career Explorations Conference for Girls (grades 7 – 12) and their mothers, or other female adult, will be conducted on the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi on Saturday, November 1, 2014. The conference is free of charge, and lunch will be provided. Please note that girls do not have to be enrolled in gifted education in order to attend. The conference is open to all girls. Each must be accompanied by her mother or another adult female. The conference is co-sponsored by The Spirit of Women at Forrest General Hospital.Dr. Amy Chasteen Miller, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, College of Arts and Letters, The University of Southern Mississippi, will be the keynote speaker. Concurrent sessions, offered during the morning and afternoon, will be lead by experts in a variety of career fields.The deadline for registration is September 20, 2014. This conference offers girls the opportunity to learn specific facts about an array of career opportunities.

    The Lumberton Board of Aldermen voted to end the suspension of the police chief and fire the city clerk during a special-called meeting Thursday night.  On Monday, WDAM reported that the Lumberton Police Department said Chief Shane Flynt had submitted his resignation and that Phillip Ducksworth was serving as the interim police chief.
