Southern Cross raising money for shelter kennels

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Southern Cross Animal Rescue in Jones County is looking to raise money to purchase kennels for their shelter.

They are hoping through fund raisers and sponsorship's of kennels to raise enough to buy 36 kennels to put inside their shelter. By adding these kennels they would greatly increase their capability to go out and rescue more animals in distress.

"We have the willingness, the know how, and the hand to rescue, but we don't have the place to put them once we rescue them," said Heather Williams, SCAR President. "We've had to use our other building which can only house 10 or 12. Little by little as we have been building out kennels we've been setting them as temporary, but we still rely very heavily on fosters."

SCAR is currently planning a series of fund raisers, one being a chili, Fritos, and soft drink lunch on Tuesday. The lunches cost $7 per order. For orders of  five or more they can be delivered in the Laurel and Ellisville area. Another way to help is to sponsor a kennel,

"It costs about $400. We will engrave a plaque with your name and place it on the front of the kennel."

Pre-orders for the chili lunch will be accepted through Sunday. Orders can be placed at Jitters on 16th Avenue in Laurel. You can find out more about the lunch by going to the Southern Cross Animal Rescue facebook page or by calling 601-433-5807.
