Petal looking at options for its waste water treatment

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - At Tuesday night's Petal Board of Aldermen meeting October 21 2014, Earthworx will present options which will potentially allow Petal to cut ties with Hattiesburg, who currently takes care of Petal's waste water.

Hattiesburg bills Petal at twice the rate of Hattiesburg residents and this has caused the Friendly City to look elsewhere for its treatment services. Mayor

Hal Marx said that either way, Petal residents are looking at a potential hike in sewer rates.

“Well this is what the people of Petal need to be prepared for, rates will go up one way or another. If we stay with Hattiesburg, rates are likely to go up and by a large amount if Hattiesburg gets its way.” said Marx, “If we go with Earthworx, the rates will go up but we feel it will go up less and it will also give us more stability and gives us control in the future so that we're not held hostage to the politics of another city.”

Tuesday night's meeting will be held at Petal City Hall at 6 p.m.
