Nick Mullens says team treating North Texas game as a 'must win'

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The stage is set for Saturday in Denton, Texas.

Southern Miss sits at 2-4 after their first six games and are winless in Conference USA (0-2). The Golden Eagles take on a North Texas team with an identical record that is also searching for their first conference win of the year.

USM has high hopes for where they want to be at the end of the season and they say the game against the Mean Green will be a big factor in reaching their goals.

"We're treating this game as a must win," said sophomore quarterback Nick Mullens. "I think it has a huge impact going down the road."

"I believe we have to win a few games out to reach our bowl game and I think that's what we're shooting for, finding a way to play consistent, get hot, get on a roll is what we're trying to do and this game against North Texas will catapult that momentum going forward."

Junior defensive back Kalan Reed echoed his QB's thoughts.

"We know we have to have this game because we want to get to six at least, and more," said Reed. "I think we can run the table for the last games because nobody, nobody on the rest of the schedule is just unbeatable. They're all realistic teams to beat."

Game-time is set for 6 p.m. on the American Sports Network.
