Iconic Hattiesburg musician passes away

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg arts and cultural scene lost one of its iconic bright stars today.

Brian Blair passed away Thursday at Forrest General Hospital where he was being treated for double pneumonia. His musical performances were cut short in 2007 when he was placed in an assisted living facility because of a central nervous system disorder caused by iron deposits on the brain.

Brian was born in Hattiesburg, graduated from HHS and Mississippi State University. His love was the Great American Song Book. He was famous for knowing over a thousand songs, many from the 20's, 30's, and 40's. He was a crowd pleaser after he performed.

Recently the Hattiesburg Arts Council held a tribute to Brian called 'With a song in my heart.'

An overflowing crowd filled the cultural center as contemporaries and musical pals paid tribute to him.

Moore funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dates for visitation and the funeral have not been set.

Brian Blair was 53 years old.
