Hattiesburg High quarterback Julian Conner is just a sophomore, but he did not play like it Friday night.
Conner helped lead the Tigers to a 62-20 win over St. Martin in Hattiesburg's third straight district win. The quarterback threw for 98 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 73 yards and two more scores. Hattiesburg head coach Tony Vance says it is no accident Conner has been successful. "He's let his work speak for itself. He's not a very vocal guy, but he comes to work everyday. He's a blue collar guy and he'll jump in there and do what needs to be done."
Conner has had a stellar season so far leading the Tigers as the starting quarterback, but he says it is all about the purple and gold. "I give credit to my teammates, offensive line, receivers, and running backs. It's not all about me," Conner said.
With the win over St. Martin, Hattiesburg is now 5-3 overall on the season and 3-0 in division play. The Tigers play Gulfport at home on Friday night.
