Multiple auto burglaries brings increased police presence in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -  A string of auto burglaries occurred late Sunday night into Monday morning around the S. 34th Avenue neighborhood in Hattiesburg.

No one has been arrested for the multiple incidents, but Hattiesburg Police Department's Lt. Jon Traxler has asked residents to send any surveillance video to HPD to assist in locating a suspect.

Although the vehicles had been left unlocked, Traxler said more patrol presence should be expected to protect the area.

“Because of the high number [of burglaries] in that area, we have made adjustments to specialty units and patrol shifts,” explained Traxler.

A Toyota Avalon was stolen from a residence on Natalie Lane, and other vehicles were either rummaged through or had items stolen from them around the area south of Thames Elementary School.

When asked if the incidents were connected, Traxler said, “There's always that possibility.”

Any information about these incidents should be reported to HPD or Crimestoppers at 601-582-STOP (7867).
