LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Old Highway 11 in Oak Grove is set to get a much needed expansion. Lamar county District 4 Supervisor Phillip Carlisle says, "Well it's just, Lamar county continues to grow at a fast fast rate…we're sitting between the high school and the middle school
and the primary school
so the traffic in here is unbelievable… people leaving and people trying to get out on the roadway is just impossible sometimes."
Construction is proposed to run from Old Highway 11 near Oak Grove High School, to Richburg Road. Carlisle says that one of the major problems with traffic on 11 comes from the mix of commercial businesses and residences that need more access to turn lanes on the road.
The total for the project will be an estimated $2.3 million with the majority of the money coming from federal funds.
No start date has been set, but Carlisle says that have plans to move forward as quickly as possible.
