Bond set at $1 million for Laurel murder suspect

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Tony Paige, 22, has been charged with murder and is facing a $1 million bond for his connection to a Saturday homicide that happened outside of Brown Circle Apartments in Laurel.

"Initial units arrived and found the subject in the roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and that subject was declared deceased at the scene," said Laurel Police Department Sgt. Michael Reaves.

Laurel police have identified the victim as Devon Fenderson, 24.

"It appears that there was an ongoing situation between the two, I'm not sure if either one of them actually resided there, neither one of them were using an address of Brown Circle," said Sgt. Reaves.

Police said Paige had fled the scene but was found at his mother's home a few hours later. A weapon was also found nearby the residence.

"We believe this to be our murder weapon, we can't confirm that until we get ballistic evidence back from the crime lab, but once we get that evidence back we'll know for sure," said Sgt. Reaves.

Sgt. Reaves said there was a motivating factor that caused the incident, but that information will not be released at this time.

"These are two young men you know, twenty-two and twenty-four-years-old, one is deceased and the other ones life is affected forever," said Sgt. Reaves. "I think it's just one of those things where you say cooler heads have to prevail."

This homicide is still under investigation, the Laurel Police Department thanks the residents for all their help in this case.

"I can't say enough about the public actually assisting us with numerous, numerous tips, which enabled us to basically come to a conclusion with this case in a very short amount of time," said Laurel Police Department Captain Jerome Jackson.
