FORREST COUNTY (WDAM) - An early morning fire, deemed suspicious in nature, destroyed 24 storage units at Grayson Mini Storage on Leeville Road in Forrest County.

According to fire investigator Carlton Sims, Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department received the call at 5:22 a.m. and when they arrived on scene they found one block of storage units fully-engulfed with flames.

First responders began cutting locks off units, and pulling doors off the units to extinguish flames. Firefighters were still on scene around noon Saturday extinguishing hot spots and small flare ups.

"The units contain everything from photos, to furniture, tools, and clothes, to personal belongings that people were storing while they are in apartments or either don't have the room in their houses," said Sims.

The storage facility located in the 1000 block of Leeville road has no power to the units.

"We have deemed the fire suspicious in nature, there is no power hooked to any of these units, we believe this was a hand-set fire which is suspicious," said Sims.

Sims stated they will begin their investigation and see how far it leads them, and if necessary they will request assistance from the State Fire Marshall's office if the investigation requires their assistance.
