LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Members of the Lamar County Sheriff's Department have a little room to brag after a recent competition in Southaven.
Officers Matt Nunnaly and Chris Regan brought home first place in the state-wide competition for the two man sniper team. The week long competition which includes law enforcement personnel from across the state allows officers to practice their skills, learn new methods and the latest innovative training methods for crisis situations.
Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel stated that the sniper team is used in many different types of scenarios and provides more than just being able to take a shot.
"It's one of those things you hope that you never have to use, but it's good to know that they are there when you do need them. We use them in high-risk warrants, situations where you think somebody has more firepower or something like that and that's why you want to bring in specially equipped individuals," said Rigel.
Sheriff Rigel noted how proud he was of his department and what an asset the team is to the entire county.
