HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - It was the largest turnout ever at the Forrest General Cancer Center 10th annual Cancer Survivor Picnic.
About 450 cancer survivors, family members, and caregivers were on hand for the event. The picnic is held each year on the lawn of cancer center on 28th Avenue. It's held to celebrate survivors of the disease and offer support and fellowship to those who are currently battling it.
"It's important to let newly diagnosed patients know that we have patients know we have patients here that are 45-year surviors and there is life after diagnosis," said Tammy McBeth, Clinical Trials Nurse.
Everyone in attendance was treated to lunch and entertained by an Elvis impersonator.
