Friday is deadline for many seeking help from Angel Tree program

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Forrest and Lamar county residents who will need some assistance this Christmas from the Hattiesburg Salvation Army's Angel Tree program have until Friday to submit an application.

They can apply in person at the Salvation Army's headquarters on Helveston Rd. on Oct. 10 from 12-6 p.m.

That program helps needy families during the holidays by providing them with food and toys.

Parents seeking assistance should bring an ID, children's birth certificates, a statement of income and bills.

"In the past, we've normally helped with about 1,000 families and that's the number that we are prepared to help with," said Maj. Frances Gilliam, corps officer for the Hattiesburg Salvation Army. "And of course, we always count on the donations and the support from our community as well, to help fill the angels and the gifts required," she said.
