HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Even though the Southern Miss men's basketball team missed out on the NCAA tournament last season, the Golden Eagles set a program high for wins in a season with 29.
Only time will tell if USM can keep the victories rolling under new leadership.
"As everybody on the first day, I want effort," said head coach Doc Sadler. "Once we get the effort to the level we need to get it at and get it there consistently, then everything else will fall into place."
Sadler takes over a team that looks to replace five seniors from last season's roster that made it to the NIT.
The first-year head coach is trying to install a new style of play that he said will take time to develop.
"We don't expect them to know everything that we want them to do and especially being the first year that we've all been together, but the one thing that can't be compromised is our effort and I hope we have that today."
Southern Miss opens the season at home against Mississippi College, November 6.
