One dead after Friday drowning

FORREST COUNTY (WDAM) - A Forrest County man is dead after drowning Friday morning. Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict identified the victim as John McGowan, 32. According to Benedict, McGowan died from what appears to be consistent with accidental drowning.

Forrest County Sheriff's Department investigators received a call around 10:00 a.m. of an unresponsive male found in a swimming pool in the 400 block of Herrington Road. Emergency personnel on scene attempted to revive McGowan, and he was transported from the scene to Forrest General Hospital.

According to investigator Nick Calico, it is being investigated as an accidental drowning, death investigation at this time.

Calico stated that McGowan did not live at the residence where authorities responded to, however he was there for the day.

The investigation is still ongoing.
