PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Mississippi's First Lady, Deborah Bryant, is about to achieve her goal of reading to students in all 82 counties in the state this year.
Bryant was in Perry County Thursday morning, reading to 3rd graders at Richton Elementary School as part of her "Read Across Mississippi" Tour.
The purpose is to stress the importance of reading and to focus attention on educational issues such as dyslexia.
Perry County is the 78th stop on Bryant's tour. She was also scheduled to read to students at schools in Wayne and Greene counties on Thursday.
"It's just been fun, it's been exciting," said Bryant.
"I love kids. It's been the best thing I've ever done," she said.
"It was really cool having Mrs. Bryant come here," said Carson Freeman, one of the students who listened to Bryant.
"I felt excited, I just couldn't wait," said Ella Grace Smith, another student.
"It was such an honor, we were so glad to be chosen number 78 in her tour," said Tina Mozingo, principal of Richton Elementary School.
The tour concludes next Monday with visits to schools in Jasper and Clarke counties.
