Southern Miss WR James Cox says 'I've gotten used to the college speed'
USM wide receiver James Cox (15) after his touchdown reception vs. Rice
Sophomore James Cox may be fourth in receptions on the Southern Miss football team (9), but the wide receiver leads the corps in touchdown receptions with two.
"As coach (Todd) Monken says, I feel the game has slowed down for me. I feel I've gotten used to the college speed," said Cox. "I feel I'm progressing and playing faster."
The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native spoke about the difference between this season and his freshman campaign.
"The biggest thing is just understanding. You know, you come in your freshman year and you're ready to play and you're anxious to play, but you're not really understanding the game yet."
"You're still just wanting to play receiver, you don't understand the little things about sitting down in zones and converting versus cloud. I'm not thinking so much as far as playing. It's really based off reaction now."
Cox caught 14 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns his freshman season.
