The Columbia Parachute Company is expanding its operations by re-locating to this building at the Marion County BusinessPlex.
COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -
A two-year-old parachute manufacturing company is expanding its operations by occupying part of the old Columbia Training School.
The Columbia Parachute Company, which makes some of the most complex parachutes in the government inventory, is re-locating to an 11,000 square foot portion of the former East Columbia High School on the old training school campus.
The campus closed in 2008 and is now the Marion County BusinessPlex.
The move is a $300,000 investment by the company and will create 26 new jobs, bringing the total number of workers to 50.
The project has also been aided by a $400,000 grant from the Mississippi Development Authority.
Columbia Parachute Company was founded in 2012 and currently leases space in the Pioneer Aerospace facility.
"(The company) started up within Pioneer in order to assist them with a project, and then they have gotten further business and are going out on their own," said Jerry Frazier, president of the Marion County Development Partnership.
The company is expected to move into the new building in January.
