HPD Drug Dropoff Day

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Drug Dropoff Day at the Hattiesburg Police department brought in about 200 pounds of out-of-date and unwanted prescription drugs during the semi-annual event.

According to HPD spokesman Lt. Jon Traxler about 50 people brought in about 40 pounds worth of pills. A daughter of a pharmacist also dropped off about 160 pounds of out-dated medicines that were still in bottles and packages. The previous event, which occurred in April, brought in about 115 pounds of prescription medications.

The drugs will be disposed of by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency.
