LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A Smith county man remains behind bars for allegedly assaulting a Jones County Deputy on Wednesday.
During a routine traffic stop by the Laurel Police Department Tyler Pittman of Taylorsville was pulled over in a 2002 Chevy Tahoe.
Authorities said Pittman got back into the car and fled the scene.
The Laurel Police Department Officer followed in pursuit.
The chase continued west on Highway 84 where deputies from the Jones County Sheriff's Department became involved.
The pursuit continued onto Soso-Big Creek Road where Pittman allegedly rammed one of the deputy's car repeatedly with the Tahoe.
The chase ended on Summerland Road when Pittman lost control of his vehicle.
Pittman remains behind bars in the Jones County jail and is charged with felony fleeing in a motor vehicle and aggravated assault on an officer.
Each charge constituted a $10,000 fine.
