Friday morning fire destroys a home in the Powers Community

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Fire destroyed a home in the Powers Community Friday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 1500 block of Highway 184 at around 8:30 a.m. When they got to the scene the house was fully involved with flames shooting out the roof. The fire was spotted by a female occupant of the home who had just stepped out to go next door. She was able to get to the front door to let out several family pets. No one else was home at the time of the fire.

The home is a total loss. The cause is under investigation.

Volunteer firefighters from Powers, Glade, M&M, and Sandersville all assisted in fighting the fire.

    The Circle K on Hardy Street in Hattiesburg hosted a "Fuel Up Night" for Oak Grove High School Thursday. The national chain pledged 10 cents from every gallon of gas sold from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. It's all part of the company's "Fueling Our Schools" fundraising campaign.
