Columbia, Ky. - No. 3 William Carey University closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over No. 6 Lindsey Wilson College at Walter S. Reuling Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Offensive opportunities were limited in the first half as the two teams combined for just five shots. The Lady Blue Raiders put 2 of their 3 shots on target in the opening frame but Linfah Jones (JR/Guayaguayare, Trinidad & Tobag) recorded two saves to keeps things scoreless. In the second half Lindsey Wilson outshot WCU 7 to 2 but again the Carey defense did not break as Jones recorded two more saves to send the game in to overtime.
the extra frame WCU finally broke through.In the 93rd minute Ofosuhema Gyamfi-Kumaning (JR/London, England) fired off a free kick from roughly 24 yards out that Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Johanna Henriksson was only able to deflect. As the ball rolled away to the middle of the six-yard box, Susanne Waitz (FR/Regensburg, Germany) fielded it and knocked in the golden goal for the game winner.
The Lady Crusaders return to action on October 2nd as they open SSAC play on the road at Belhaven College.
