POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) - A three-judge panel from the Mississippi Court of Appeals has convened for the first time at Pearl River Community College. It was part of the "Court on the Road" program.
Judges Virginia Carlton, Gene Fair and Chief Judge Joseph Lee heard an appeal Wednesday of a felony DUI case from Marion County Circuit Court.
After oral arguments, the court adjourned and the panel took questions from students, but not about that Marion County case.
"This gives an opportunity for all aged students to actually visualize, in person, an actual court proceeding and we're more than happy to take the court on the road," said Chief Judge Joseph Lee.
"I was actually pretty shocked how it goes down and it was very, very, very interesting," said student Layton Carlisle.
"It shows that our court systems really care and it shows that they want other people's opinions," said Michaela Andrews, another student.
The Appeals Court hosts the "Court on the Road" about six times a year and they'll re-convene at Southern Miss in November.
