Dasman McCullum named Conference USA defensive player of the week
In recognition of his efforts in Southern Miss' 21-20 win against Appalachian State, Golden Eagle senior defensive lineman Dasman McCullum has been named Conference USA's defensive player of the week.
"Just the win was enough, but having that as an honor too, is just tremendous. Just very humbled by it," said McCullum.
The former West Jones Mustang's biggest play of the game came on a blocked extra point with six seconds left in the 4th quarter to preserve USM's one point lead over the Mountaineers.
"Daz is just a great person first and foremost," said defensive coordinator David Duggan. "He doesn't say a whole lot. He does what he's supposed to do all the time. We never have an issue with Daz being late. He's accountable and he makes plays."
The Hebron, Miss. native finished the night with a career best 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
