Osher Institute to Present Series on Southern Miss, Higher Education

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is hosting a series of programs this fall focusing on the impact The University of Southern Mississippi has on higher education in the state and nation, as well as its contributions to the area's quality of life. Other topics will address general issues associated with higher education.

The presentations, to be given by Southern Miss administrators, will be held throughout mid November.

"We had a pitiful birthright and yet we have taken and turned it into a large wonderful comprehensive research university."

Lucas also reflected on how Southern Miss has come far since its racially segregated past. He also mentioned how USM is the first university in the South to employ an African American university president.
