A multi-million dollar project to expand and improve W. 4th Street in Lamar County is all but complete, after a 1 1/3 mile section of Jackson Road connecting W. 4th Street and Highway 98 opened Thursday afternoon.
That $4.4 million third and final phase also included the widening of part of W. 4th Street.
Initial work began back in 2008. The total cost of the project was about $11.3 million.
"This particular project concludes the work on the north side of Highway 98," said Jason Lamb, project engineer. "Lamar County will be continuing to evaluate the next phase of work, but this concludes the work that is north of Highway 98 and a part of the Highway 98 access improvement," he said.
Lamb said some adjutstments might still need to be made on a few traffic signals.
