South Jones student finds loaded handgun on campus

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - According to Jones County deputies, a South Jones High School student found a loaded Hi-Point .380 handgun on campus Tuesday.

Authorities say the gun was discovered by a student in some bushes between the band practice field and the school's agricultural building. The handgun was loaded with one bullet in the chamber and five in the magazine.

Officials say the student discovered the gun during regular school hours while working on a school project.

The serial number on the handgun shows that the gun is not registered as stolen. However, officials say investigating who the gun is registered to may take several weeks.
