USM breaks ground for new nursing school

Groundbreaking for the new Asbury Hall Nursing School at The University of Southern Mississippi is finally here. After 8 years in the making, administrators gathered on the grounds of the new school to celebrate construction.

Lt. Governor Tate Reeves says it's certainly a great day to be a Golden Eagle.

"What a great opportunity for Hattiesburg and a great opportunity for this region but it's really a great opportunity for The State of Mississippi as we see more and more nursing graduates because one thing we know for sure about those graduating from the school is they're gonna be able to find a job and they're gonna be able to find a good job right here in Mississippi," Reeves said.

He also says he encourages young people to consider healthcare professions, because the demand for medical care is increasing.
