Hattiesburg 9/11 Ceremony

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Emergency responders, city officials and members of the community gathered at Hattiesburg's Fire Station 1 as the bell tolled at 8:46 a.m.

A moment of silence was observed to remember American Airlines Flight 11 that struck the north tower.

Presentations were given to honor our local first responders, as well as Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree spoke about the struggles America faces each day.

"Whether you are in the biggest city in America or the smallest city in America, you are still a first responder, and it means everything, and patriot's day means everything to first responders, no matter how long they have been in service or what their career has spanned it's a wonderful thing," said Hattiesburg Fire Department Assistant Chief Matt Saucier.

At 9:03 a.m. the tolling of the second bell and the crowd fell silent remembering United Airlines Flight 175 that struck the south tower.
