9/11 survivor has close ties with Pine Belt

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Frances Brown has lived in New York for more than 30 years, and on the morning of September 11th she could sense that something was wrong.

"It was strange, it was a really strange morning," Brown said.

She was running late for work that morning, but when she arrived, something else seemed unusual.

"My co-workers were all standing outside, and I said what are you guys doing and they said look up.  I said oh wow, what Bruce Willis movie are they shooting now," Brown said.

It wasn't a movie. Two planes had just crashed into the world trade centers.

"My co-worker just pushed me and said run and then we ran halfway across the street.  It was blacker than black," Brown said.

Brown was taken to the hospital by total strangers, and she was unable to clearly see for days.

Brown said it's a day she will never forget.

"I was so grateful to be alive," Brown said.
