HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Two volunteer groups in Hattiesburg gathered with some local citizens to show their support for Hub City firefighters in advance of Patriot Day Thursday. Wednesday afternoon, Volunteer Hattiesburg and AmeriCorps, along with children from the YMCA and other community volunteers, washed several fire trucks at Hattiesburg's Number One Fire Station.
The AmeriCorps volunteers also washed some police vehicles on Tuesday.
It was done to honor first responders for their service to the community.
"They do a tremendous job for our city, so they're there when we need them, so why not come out and help," said Quiana Hinton, one of the volunteers.
"I just decided to come out because I love helping in my community, so I thought it was a great opportunity to come out and just enjoy," said Olivia Thompson, another volunteer.
About three dozen volunteers helped wash the trucks.
