First Friday Law Enforcement Luncheon, a way to say thank you

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

About 200 law enforcement civic leaders were at the Purvis First Baptist Church enjoying a barbeque lunch Friday.

The luncheon is put on every other first Friday of the month as way to thank you for the officers service to the community. It also gives them an opportunity to meet with fellow officers and share experiences.

The luncheon was started by late philanthropist John Hill and it has become a tradition dating back more than 14-years.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel and the Lamar Sheriff's Cooking Team threw on their aprons to whip up the feast.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
