The Lamar County Board of Supervisors were forced to void a bid for more than $300,000 at their last meeting, meaning a deadline stood in the way of a years-long plan.
Lamar County was scheduled to begin breaking ground at Optimist Park in September; however, somewhere along the way, the ball was dropped. Supervisor Phillip Carlisle says timing got in the way of bid approval.
"Bottom line, there was some paperwork mailed to the board of supervisors from MDOT toward the latter part of April... Never was received," Carlisle said.
He adds, consequently, they passed a 60-day required mark to get the contract awarded.
"We were at a 70-day mark and because we missed the mark, the contractor that was awarded the park the option to back out, and they chose to do so," he added.
