Wayne County deputies continue taking drugs off streets

WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The Wayne County Sheriff's Department continues taking drugs off the streets. In less than a week 1.5 ounces of marijuana, approximately 31 grams of methamphetamine and 1 gram of cocaine has been recovered. Aside from drugs, more than 12 firearms have also been seized.

On Wednesday the department along with the narcotics unit served a search warrant on a residence located on Highway 45 South in Buckatunna. According to investigators, approximately 26.6 grams of methamphetamine was discovered in the home along with digital scales, multiple baggies, firearms and drug paraphernalia.

Deputies arrested Brian Pope and charged him with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm and within 1500 feet of a church and school.

According to the sheriff's department, approximately $3,400 worth of drugs have been recovered in the past few days and taken off the streets.

    A child was injured on Friday evening after an accident on a ride at the South Mississippi State Fair in Laurel. Fair representative Pam Holyfield said that a little girl was on a ride called "Up, Up and Away" when the seat on the ride came loose and the little girl fell out of the ride.  The fall knocked the girl unconscious, according to the little girl's mother. The child was taken to South Central Medical Center in Laurel where they are awaiting test results. ...
