WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Wayne County Sheriff's Department through routine operations in the past few days made six felony and 5 misdemeanor arrests.
Thanks to search warrants, traffic stops and checkpoints, the county recovered 12 firearms, scales, paraphernalia and a good amount of narcotics.
Six individuals have been charged with various felonies and have all had their bond set. The sheriff's department thanks the Jones County Sheriff's Department and the highway patrol for assisting in these operations.
According to the department the arrests started with a search warrant Thursday. Deputies found methamphetamine, marijuana, a firearm, scales, and paraphernalia at a home located on West Pine Street. Cordarius Johnson was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm within 1,500 feet of a church. According to deputies, Johnson also has several misdemeanor charges. Wayne County Justice Court Judge Charles Chapman set Johnson's bond at $35,000.
The department along with the Jones County Sheriff's Department also served a search warrant Friday at a residence located on Strengthford Cooley Road. Several firearms, cash money, methamphetamine, digital scales, and paraphernalia were discovered in the residence. Deputies said Roxanna Stanley was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm. Wayne County Justice Court Judge Charles Chapman set Stanley's bond at $10,000. Also arrested at the residence was Brian Crawford. Crawford was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Judge Chapman set Crawford's bond at $35,000.
Deputy Brandon Purvis conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Augusta Mitchell on Highway 45 near the Dyess Bridge Road interchange. Deputy Purvis discovered Mitchell to be in possession of cocaine and prescription medications without a prescription. Mitchell was charged with possession of cocaine and Judge Charles Chapman set his bond for at $35,000. According to the sheriff's department, Mitchell also has several misdemeanor charges.
Aaron Arrington was arrested at a checkpoint located at Highway 84 and 184. Investigator Johnny Smith discovered Arrington to be in possession of marijuana packaged in several small packages for distribution. His bond was set at $30,000.
Buddy Pitts Jr. "Tojo" was also arrested at a checkpoint located at the intersection of Beat Four Shubuta Road and Boyles Road. Investigator Johnny Smith found Pitts to be in possession of methamphetamine. Pitts was also charged with grand larceny in connection to the theft of the Massey Ferguson tractor in June of 2014. Investigators said Pitts was also charged with another count of grand larceny in connection to the theft of a John Deere tractor in November 2013. Judge Charles Chapman set Pitts bonds at a total of $120,000.
