Garner sentenced in 'butt injection' case

Garner awaits her sentencing Garner awaits her sentencing
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Tracy Lynn Garner has been sentenced in connection to illicit silicone buttocks injections that led to an Atlanta woman's death.

A jury has just sentenced her to life in prison on the depraved heart murder charge.

The victim's family issued a statement asking that Garner be given the maximum sentence "so that she will not be able to do this to any other person to cause such grief and undue pain on another family. Karima lost her life and the ability to see her son grow up and we lost a loving daughter, sister and friend; we will never see her again. Tracey Garner is still alive and should not be allowed to enjoy the things that we or Karima won't, so we ask the court to render the maximum sentence possible, to send a message to everyone out there giving these illegal injections, that it is a crime and they can end up right where Tracey Garner is today. "

Attorney General Hood "extends his gratitude to the Jury for following the will of the victims family in handing down the sentence."

"We are pleased the jury weighed the evidence with the requests of Ms. Gordan's family and delivered the maximum sentence" said Attorney General Hood.

Garner was convicted Friday evening after the jury deliberated for about five hours.

The 54-year-old woman was found guilty of depraved heart murder and conspiracy to commit wire fraud in the death of Karima Gordon.

Gordon died eight days after receiving buttocks injections in 2012.

Prosecution says Gordon was referred to Garner by Natasha Stewart also known as Pebbelz Da Model, an adult entertainer in New York.

Stewart was convicted of manslaughter earlier this year and is serving time in prison.

It didn’t take long for Nick Sandlin to capture another award following his return to the mound for USM. The junior was named Conference USA pitcher of the week and a Collegiate Baseball player of the week for the third time this season. Sandlin pitched 12 strikeouts and allowed just one hit in five innings of USM’s 8-0 win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday. Junior Adam Jackson is expected to take the mound on Tuesday night when the Golden Eagles host South Alabama.

Though soft-spoken, Steven Anderson hits hard. A "violent" runner as Southern Miss teammate Keon Howard describes him, perhaps Anderson is making up for all those years spent at quarterback. "Steven runs like he doesn't want to be hit no more,” Howard said.
