Report: Grant, Lutz Interview At CofC

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Bobby Lutz interviewed for the head basketball coaching position at the College of Charleston on Saturday according to ESPN and CBS Sports.

The former Charlotte head coach and current NC State assistant joins Stall alum and Clemson assistant Earl Grant in having interviewed for the opening since both previous finalists, Anthony Johnson and Mike Young, withdrew from consideration on Wednesday.

A source at the College told Live 5 News on Thursday that Grant is currently the favorite to get the job. He knows the area having grown up here and worked as an assistant coach at The Citadel. He also has ties to CofC having worked as an assistant at Winthrop and Wichita State under Gregg Marshall who himself was an assistant at the College under John Kresse. Both Marshall and Kresse have reportedly put their support towards Grant with CofC.

Lutz has the experience advantage of having been a head coach in the past and a successful one at that. Lutz took Charlotte to 5 NCAA tournament's in a 7 year stretch from 1999-2005. He was fired by the 49ers in 2009 and is currently the top assistant at NC State.

Sources told Live 5 an announcement could come early this week.
