Fire heavily damaged Statesboro restaurant

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

A Tuesday night fire heavily damaged a downtown Statesboro restaurant .

Statesboro Fire Department responded to 19 South Main Street for reported structure fire around 11:25 p.m.

After they arrived, firefighters found one of Statesboro's downtown historical buildings heavily involved with fire.

Firefighting crews from both Statesboro and Bulloch County were able to conduct an aggressive firefighting operation and successfully contained the fire to its general area of origin.

The incident lasted approximately four hours and Statesboro firefighters returned periodically to ensure a rekindle did not occur.

The majority of heavy damage occurred in the South and Vine Public House Restaurant but some smoke and heat damage did extend into the DeJa'Vu consignment shop located next door.

Additionally, due to the extensive operation of the incident, Metter Fire Department provided mutual aid and responded to the Grady Street Fire Station in the event other incidents were to arise during the event.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
