BREAKING: Purvis High School fire ruled arson

PURVIS, MS (WDAM) -

A fire at the Purvis High School field house has been ruled as arson by investigators and a $5,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects involved.

According to Lamar County investigators evidence obtained at the scene shows signs of an incendiary element that led to the destruction of the building.

The Purvis High School field house was completely destroyed by fire around 1:00 p.m. August 16th.

Multiple fire departments from around the county responded to the blaze that gutted the facility.

"It included everything, our weight room, field house, storage, our dressing facility so you know it's a big loss particularly this time of year to try to get everything pulled back together," said Purvis Head coach Perry Wheat.

Since the time of the fire, numerous coaches and businesses from around the state have pitched in to provide Purvis with the equipment they need to get their season back on track.

The Lamar County Sheriff's Department asks anyone with any information to contact the local sheriffs department or contact the State Fire Marshall's office at 601-359-1061 or 1-888-648-0877.
