United Way names lucky winner in Home Sweet Home Raffle

The winner of the United Way Home Sweet Home Raffle was drawn Monday night.

The lucky winner is Mary S. Davis of Hattiesburg. She has the option of taking the beautiful, brand-new home in the Bellegrass community or $100,000. This is the first year that the United Way has offered this option.

"I buy a ticket every year, but never really expected to win," said Davis. "I do it to support the United Way and the programs that they support."

The United Way sold 3796 tickets this year, over 1000 more than last year. The proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit 19 agencies across the area.

Davis had not visited the house at all during construction or since its completion. After learning that she'd won, she saw the inside of the home for the very first time on Tuesday.

"I'm sure we'll take the house," she said.
