HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg has received two different awards for having outstanding care for cardiologist patients in August.

The Blue Distinction Center of Excellence For Cardiac Care and the Platinum Performance Achievement Award were awarded to the hospital for their dedication to providing excellent patient care.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi chose Forrest General to receive the Blue Distinction Center of Excellence For Cardiac Care award out of six network hospitals in the state that deliver full cardiac services.

Hospital administrators said that they are pleased to be recognized for this award because it's an award that recognizes Forrest General's commitment to delivering the highest level of cardiac care in the Pine Belt.

For the second year in a row, the hospital received a platinum award from the American College of Cardiology Award for Cardiac Care that recognizes Forrest General for having high standards in patient care compared to national guidelines.

Forrest General Cardiologist Robert Wilkins said this system of care is more than just individuals, and it's an entire team that makes the high standard of care possible.

Dr. Wilkins said that Forrest General was awarded because they ensure that care doesn't stop when the patient is released from the hospital.

Forrest General is one of 256 hospitals in the nation to receive the American College of Cardiology Award for Cardiac Care.
