(CNN) - A 10-year-old boy vacationing with his family at the New Jersey shore this summer made a rare find.

Noah Cordle stepped on an ancient arrowhead, then pulled it out of the surf.

An expert at the New Jersey Bureau of Archaeology and Ethnography says dates back to the Paleoindian period. That means it could be anywhere from 8,000 to 11,000 years old.

The family plans to hold on the treasure for a little while before they donate it.
