Outdoor sculptures grace USM's campus

Five internationally-known artists have been chosen to display their outdoor sculptures on the University of Southern Mississippi's campus. The first piece was installed Monday and the other four will follow over the next two weeks.

The outdoor sculptures will remain on campus through February of 2016 for students and the community to enjoy. The artists will come from all over the country to install their pieces, speak with students. and give lectures.

"It's always an honor to be selected in a competition, partly because of the university and the role that the sculpture plays in education, making people more aware of culture and aesthetics," said Ray Katz, artist. "It was an outstanding opportunity to be able to come down here and work with the students."

"This will be a great opportunity for folks to meet and talk to the actual artists and experience a unique arts engagement opportunity," said Jennifer Torres, Art and Design professor at USM.
