One dead, one in custody after late night shooting in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Hattiesburg man is dead, and another in custody after a late night shooting on Dabbs Street.

Carlos Yancey, 35, of Hattiesburg died from what appeared to be a gun shot wound according Forrest County Deputy Coroner Jonathan Nobles.

According to Nobles the body will be sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for autopsy.

Jerry Evans, 60, of Hattiesburg was booked into the Forrest County jail on a murder charge according to HPD Lt. Jon Traxler.

According to Traxler, Hattiesburg police responded to a call of a large fight with possible shots fired in the 900 block of Dabbs Street around 11:30 p.m.

When officers arrived they learned a victim was taken to Forrest General Hospital from the Dabbs and Milton Barnes intersection.

According to Traxler the victim died at Forrest General after being taken there by a person from the scene.
