USM students recognized for research endeavors

The Center for Undergraduate Research is recognizing more than a dozen Southern Miss students for their scholastic endeavors.

A reception held in honor of those students on Friday highlighted their independent research methods. Those noteworthy projects range from economic development plans, to scientific research.

Each recipient was awarded a stipend for their efforts.

"Every semester, a competitive program where my students can receive up to a thousand dollars that will help support independent research that is conducted in collaboration with a faculty mentor and the money can be used for anything from a stipend, to paying for supplies, to travel," said Dr. Marie Danforth, Steering Committee Chair.

She also added the program enhances the strong research community that Southern Miss is known for.
